Welcome 6:54 pm
Welcome to the Helix community web log. This a place where several like-minded college students rant about life.

And yes, when classes get busy there are few posts and even fewer updates. But you are welcome to change that.

school’s out

Well, school’s out! This means I don’t have to deal with homework for a while. My semister went relatively well, I guess. It could’ve been worse. How did everyone else fair?

Tribute to Circuit Theory

After endless hours of circuit theory home work, I often wonder, what’s the point of all this? It comes down to one thing. I hope this video makes things clear.

We make the distant future today’s reality.

And how did you get the funding for this?

This is an interesting find but why do we really need to know this? Lets hope this trend is not prevailent in humans.

posts

Ok, so I’ve been very prolific in posting stuff, some of them crap, and some of them good stuff. Since the new semister is upon me and many of you, don’t expect so much writing from me. I’ll be diving into circuit and cell bio. Can wait to make those gene ciruits. Best of luck to everyone in the new semister’s trials.

D&D Quiz

Hmmm I think this tops my Geekiness

I Am A: Lawful Evil Human Ranger Paladin

Alignment:
Lawful Evil characters believe that a nice, orderly system of life is perfect for them to abuse for their own advancement. They will work within ‘the system’ to get the best that they can for themselves.

Race:
Humans are the ‘average’ race. They have the shortest life spans, and because of this, they tend to avoid the racial prejudices that other races are known for. They are also very curious and tend to live ‘for the moment’.

Primary Class:
Rangers are the defenders of nature and the elements. They are in tune with the Earth, and work to keep it safe and healthy.

Secondary Class:
Paladins are the Holy Warriors. They have been chosen by a God/dess to be their representative on Earth, and must follow the code of that deity, or risk severe penalties. They tend towards being righteous, but not generally to excess.

about the post below this one

Ok, I’d normally post my comment about the last post in the comments section of the last post, but since I have a lot to talk about and would like other people’ opinions, I’ve decided just to make a new post instead.

Since this country is a democracy, the president acts with the people’s consent. So how can so many people consent, by either agreeing or not disapproving President Bush’s actions, regarding Iraq? I think the answer lies largely within the current educational system and the current culture.

Our public schools are controlled and manipulated by the government. The schools receive their money from the government and their performance is regulated and evaluated by the government. Hence schools teach the truth, or at least whatever the government decides is true. This government monopoly really reminds me of 1920Bolshalvic Russia, except in this case it’s just education. Going along with this same analogy, just as Communism ruined the Russian people’s livelihood, the US government monopoly on education is ruining today’s children and tomorrow’s future. For example, according to the Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), American students score the lowest consistently on standardized tests given to students from forty one other developed or developing nations. Not only are American students taught poorly, they are also taught subjectively, with bias toward the government’s point of view. This has perpetuated for the last thirty years and only now do we see the results, in both poor student performance and general apathy toward American policy that, to the rest of the world, appear blatantly misdirected.

Lastly, I have a few words about today’s culture. In today’s information age, people are bombarded with information. We learn but we no longer think, or we are so busy distracting our selves with novel and often inferiorly made forms of entertainment (cough cough xbox360), that we do not care or do not have the time to concern ourselves with the world’s spiraling chaos.

Why do we prefer to ignore problems than to fixing them?

As of this day, I will cease my long time relationship with anime. There will be no anime watching next semister. How’s that for will power?

New Years Resolution

To hail the start of this new year, I’ve made a list of resolutions.
And in no particular order, they are…

2. Learn MATLAB (this too is well under way)
3. Earn black belt (also well under way)
4. Get into medical school (well under way again)
5, Be able to bench 300 lbs. again (this will require work)
6. Laugh and ridicule slackers into working (I love doing this)
7. Get a 4.0 GPA (have come very close several times, but this time…)
8. Get a girl friendattempt to get a girl friendThink about getting a girl friend.
9. Get more flexible…mentally and physically

New Years

Well hello everyone, I’ve noticed that I’ve been neglecting to post anything for the past couple of months, but you can’t really blame me, after all, this semister’s been horribly busy. Anyway, I’ve made updates now. If your eyes are keen you’ll notice them.

Did you know that the rotation of the earth is slowing down? This is due to the gravition from the moon. As of 7p.m. on saturday, the day before new years, one extra second will be added to the earth day! This means one extra second of sleep for all!

Why Engineers Rock

10 Good Reasons to Date and Marry an Engineer

1. The world does not revolve around them. They choose the coordinate system.
2. No “couple” could enjoy a better “moment.”
3. They know how to handle stress and strain in a relationship.
4. They have significant figures.
5. EK 301: The motion of rigid bodies.
6. Projectile motion: Need we say more?
7. Engineers do it to specifications.
8. According to Newton, if two bodies interact, the forces are equal and opposite.
9. They know it’s not the length of the vector that counts, but how you apply the force.
10. They know the right hand rule.

Exams - Round 1

And so ends the round one of exams for me. I feel relieved, yes, but on the other hand, rather anxious to see the results. Sometimes I feel like just like releasing everything and letting it all out. I think this comic sums it up.

Road Construction

Ok, I feel very compelled to complain right now. Last night, at ten a construction crew with jack hammers started working right under my window, until midnight. Which, I accept as ok, because, although I was going to go to sleep early last night, know that college students shouldn’t complain about noise past midnight. However, those damned people started again at four thirty am. Isn’t there a law against this or something? I feel like raiding mark’s military grade weapons to put a stop to this if it ever happened again.

Nerd/Geek/Dork test

Ok, someone sent me an email to try out a nerd/geek/dork (yes there is a difference) test, and I took it. Well, here are the results.

Ok, ok, I admit I’ve always been a nerd and this test proves it.

On a completely different subject, I have freesparing on friday. It’ll be a good test of how rusty I’ve become over the summer.
