Welcome to the Helix community web log. This a place where several like-minded college students rant about life.
Want to rant with us? Then become a member! And yes, when classes get busy there are few posts and even fewer updates. But you are welcome to change that. |

Check out the picture and quote of the week. |
Well, school’s out! This means I don’t have to deal with homework for a while. My semister went relatively well, I guess. It could’ve been worse. How did everyone else fair?
This has got to be the greatest commercial of all times.

Honda Commercial w/a appella choir
This is an interesting find but why do we really need to know this? Lets hope this trend is not prevailent in humans.
Ok, this is just ridiculous. Its as if these can see the “weave’, in EV nova terms.

Do you like “Cat’s Craddle” ? Maybe you think ” Slaughterhouse Five” was pure brilliance. If this is the case then you are one of the fortunate ones to experience the incredible narrative of Vonnegut. This awesome author was also a guest at The Daily Show with Jon Stewart last December.
“Everyone thinks the President is the dumbest man in the top ranks of our government. I would like to rephrase that and apologize, because he’s not the dumbest, but one of many. I think the dumbest man in our government is the Secretary of State. He thought America could take over a country of 27 million arabs and their oil with a handful of bangs and booms with 200,000 soldiers who did not know how to even say ‘Hello’ in arabic. For that I apologize.”
~ Kurt Vonnegut @ The Daily Show w/ Jon Stewart
Is it just me or everytime I turn on the T.V. and try to watch CNN or one of those partisan news channels I feel horrified, shocked and amazed at how effective and professional can the Bush Administration be at psychological warfare here and abroad. I just hope that this behavior doesn’t translate to politcal apathy from our current generation.
As of this day, I will cease my long time relationship with anime. There will be no anime watching next semister. How’s that for will power?
To hail the start of this new year, I’ve made a list of resolutions.
And in no particular order, they are…
1. Publish an article in a research paper (this is well under way right now)
2. Learn MATLAB (this too is well under way)
3. Earn black belt (also well under way)
4. Get into medical school (well under way again)
5, Be able to bench 300 lbs. again (this will require work)
6. Laugh and ridicule slackers into working (I love doing this)
7. Get a 4.0 GPA (have come very close several times, but this time…)
8. Get a girl friend…attempt to get a girl friend…Think about getting a girl friend.
9. Get more flexible…mentally and physically
10. Feel good about self (I’m very good at this)
And so ends the round one of exams for me. I feel relieved, yes, but on the other hand, rather anxious to see the results. Sometimes I feel like just like releasing everything and letting it all out. I think this comic sums it up.
What is the difference between Engineering and hell?
Hell is warm during the winter.
Ok, I feel very compelled to complain right now. Last night, at ten a construction crew with jack hammers started working right under my window, until midnight. Which, I accept as ok, because, although I was going to go to sleep early last night, know that college students shouldn’t complain about noise past midnight. However, those damned people started again at four thirty am. Isn’t there a law against this or something? I feel like raiding mark’s military grade weapons to put a stop to this if it ever happened again.
By the end of this week, we should all be back to class, exempting only Grad work.
So, my guess is that within a week or two we’re going to have a plethora of ‘new’ ideas, being those that we’ve never encountered before or in such magnitude. Personally speaking, my WWI class is bound to come across like this, probably with a stong pro-Entente (65% chance) or pro-Allies (35% chance) stance.
Just keep in mind the real world while looking at these things. Remember: every academic is expected to do research into their field, and to push their point. Discern where their ideology differs from the course material and take the rest on the quality of their work - Pete, this means experiments, and everyone else, this means interpretation sans fallacies.
So… anyone have a favorite class yet? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
Now I know what the difference between a nerd, geek, and dork. Very interesting, acually. I never there was difference, always thought that when someone called another person a nerd one day and then called them a geek the next day, it meant the same. Hmmm…… Conclusion-Things are never what they seem…
Ok, someone sent me an email to try out a nerd/geek/dork (yes there is a difference) test, and I took it. Well, here are the results.
Ok, ok, I admit I’ve always been a nerd and this test proves it.
On a completely different subject, I have freesparing on friday. It’ll be a good test of how rusty I’ve become over the summer.
I promised my sister that I would french braid her hair before I left for school. Yes, that does imply I know how to french braid hair. Tried to braid my sister’s hair, but it wasn’t conditioned well, so it bunched up a lot, made the process very difficult. I had many urges to just pull out those troublesome hair right from their folicals, alas, after much self restraint, I managed to proceed and complete the job. The braid was very loose, due to the excessively uncooperative hair. Conclusion: I would NEVER want to be a hair dresser, I’m certain that I would go postal if I ever became one.
Guessing that we’re alive and here to complain/blather/rant, everything is on its way back to normal.
S’pose I’ll let out my odd’er side here over time.
